OCD Therapy in Glendale

Does it feel like OCD is consuming your life?

Have you been haunted by disturbing, unwanted thoughts you feel like you can’t control? You may be spending a lot of your time doing things you don’t even want to be doing just so you can escape your terrifying thoughts.

What Does OCD Look Like?

Obsessions:

persistent thoughts, images or urges that come up against your will and cause intense distress such as anxiety, shame, or disgust.

Common obsessions include:

  • Fears about you or people you care about getting hurt. Often you are afraid you’ll be responsible for the harm

  • Fears about contamination, illness, or germs

  • Worries about things being “just right” such as writing, reading, speaking, or physical movements

  • Distressing sexual thoughts (worries over your sexual behavior, orientation, urges)

  • Fears about moral or religious concerns (being a good person or being faithful)

Compulsions:

repetitive, excessive behaviors aimed at finding relief from intrusive thoughts.

You could be experiencing OCD if you have been spending much of your time:

  • Checking—checking your body for concerning symptoms, or checking if you’ve locked the door, turned off the stove, done the right thing.

  • Ruminating—going over and over the same thought such as a worry, a memory, or a future catastrophe as though you can’t stop

  • Cleaning/Organizing—washing your hands, disinfecting, excessively arranging or perfecting

  • Repeating any kind of time-consuming behavior that makes you feel stuck, trapped or out of control, such as counting, praying, or reading

You are ready for a change

Living with OCD without recognizing it or knowing how to deal with it is overwhelming and draining. But you don’t have to be a victim to your obsessions or compulsions. OCD therapy can help you overcome your negative thoughts and get back to the things you truly value.

How I Help - OCD Treatment in Glendale

Develop Awareness and Insight

I will help you learn the obsessive-compulsive cycle so you can interrupt that cycle however it shows up. We will explore the unique ways OCD keeps you stuck, including the behaviors you’ve been caught up with that give you temporary relief but actually prolong your suffering in the long run. You will develop awareness of underlying fears that are motivating these unwanted behaviors.

Learn Effective Coping Tools

You will learn long-term effective strategies to cope with tough feelings, such as self-compassion and mindfulness practices. I will also help you understand distressing thought patterns like chronic over-thinking, and give you tools to manage and respond to your thoughts in healthier ways.

Gradually Face Your Fears - Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)

Armed with a useful toolbox, we’ll help you gradually face your fears (exposure) and learn to reduce or eliminate your compulsions (response prevention). We will collaborate on this plan so we make sure you feel prepared and confident to take each new step to conquer your fears. We will help you free yourself from this awful cycle so you can live a full life.

Using Effective, Science-Backed Methods

As and OCD therapist with specialized training, I use effective treatment methods, such as Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Inference-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (I-CBT). I tailor OCD treatment to your individual needs to help you find true relief and become confident in yourself.
